Piezo Shockwaves – Principle of Generation

Piezo elements are arrayed in a single or double layer on a concave surface. A high-voltage pulse is used to briefly and simultaneously expand the piezo elements by a few micrometers to create a pressure pulse. The piezo elements are precisely aligned with the therapy focus. Precisely focusing the pulse creates a shockwave in the focal treatment zone.

The piezo shockwave is the only type of generated shockwave to use direct focusing, and it therefore does not require an additional reflector. This is why the therapy source has a flat design and has a precise, well-defined focal zone. Treatment is quiet and almost painless, and the intensity of treatment can be varied independently. Piezo shockwave technology is extremely durable, as reflected by the long manufacturer’s warranty. No other shockwave generation principle allows such a wide range of innovatively shaped therapy sources and means of activation. The technology permits an unusually wide range of focal shapes, energy flux densities and penetration depths for optimal treatment outcomes.
